i'm wondering what the letters Mc and , sometimes O' mean when they're put in front of some families name
could anyone tell me ?

Briefly:
In the Highlands and Galloway, "son of" was denoted by the prefix, Mac.
In Ireland, a man's surname generally takes the form Ó (originally "grandson") or Mac ("son")
