hello guys can you help me what is the proper usage of these words. i knew that we can use meant for past tense.

iam asking something and i found out that my question was not so clear. so which one i will going to use if i want to correct that.

1. what i mean is
or
2. what i meant was

Hi Sophie,

Both are correct.

What I mean is, she is correct and I am not. - referring to what you MEAN NOW, in a current conversation or argument.

What I meant was, I was correct and she was not. - referring to what you MEANT BEFORE, in a prior discussion or argument.
