Hi,

The living always think that gold can make them happy.

'The living' means 'all living people'. The meaning is that everybody thinks that money will make them happy.

Hanuman, I'd like to tell you a little about politeness in Western culture. It's a very important thing, but there are levels of politeness. Sometimes a person can be not polite enough, sometimes they can be too polite. When you say 'Hello Sir', it's a little too polite by Western standards. It's better just to say 'Hi' or 'Hello'. We don't say 'Sir' to each other a lot. I hope you don't mind my mentioning this to you.

Best wishes, Clive

Especially since many of the people who answer questions here are women. Wink [;)]

Point well taken, I stand corrected.

We don't always know, on this forum, do we? Do you think you can tell someone's gender by how they write? I sometimes wonder about that.

Best wishes, Clive

Cute. Smile [:)] But we can tell from our usernames, can't we? Unless some people use "gender neutral" usernames. Stick out tongue [:P] Moreover, we can also tell it from the gender symbol shown under the usernames, though not all people provide that information. Me neither. hehe

I can't always tell...there are people on here I visualise as male even though I have since found out they are female, and vice versa!  But I'm not naming names...

Dear sirs and madams,

«The living always think that gold can make them happy.»

It is a sentence with most remarkable implications. It is perhaps written by a dead person? Smile [:)]

Kind regards, Smile [:)]

Hi,

Well, I've read opinions that the internet has a lot of role-playing and deception, both innocent and otherwise. Just because someone indicates they are male (or female), does that mean they are? Some people like to have their little games.

What was in my mind, with my question, was to wonder whether someone could successfully impersonate a person of the opposite gender, via their writing style and what they write. What do you think?

Best wishes, Clive

That's an interesting question. Why not post it in Topics, Clive?
