Hi,

What does "back in the game" mean?

For example: Tom is back in the game against the other candidates.

Thanks

Hi,
What does "back in the game" mean?

For example: Tom is back in the game against the other candidates.

It could mean 'Tom has resumed the contest.
eg he was playing soccer, and got hurt. He left the field for 10 minutrs, and then came back.

It can also mean 'He was losing very badly, but has now become a serious contender again'.
eg The horse was a long way behind the others, but has now almost caught up to them, so it is 'back in the game'.

The context will nortmally clarify the intended meaning.

Best wishes, CliveI
