Hi,

1. He stole off  to Teddy's bath-room, but there was nothing there, and then to Teddy's mother's bathroom. At the bottom of the smooth plaster wall there was a brick pulled out to make a sluice for the bath-water, and as Rikki-tikki stole in by the masonry curb where the bath is put, he heard Nag and Nagaina whispering together outside in the moonlight.

What are the meanings of the words written in bold letters?

Thanks.

Hello H2K

1. He stole off  = he moved stealthily

2. a sluice = a hole through which the water can drain away

3. stole in / by the / masonry curb = stealthily entered / alongside / the stone edging

Would you be able to put a more specific title in your Subject box when you post, please, H2K?

It's difficult to know which of your "meaning" threads is which!

Thanks!
