Hi,

Does the "on a beer run" part in the following sentence mean that they went to a bar for a beer ?

Greg and I went on a beer run

Thanks !

I use the expression to indicate that I am going someplace to get beer and bring it back (home, to the office, whatever).  We used to make booze and cigarette runs to Portland because the taxes on those items in Oregon were so much lower than those in Washington.

Hi,

I'm sure that Philip has given you the intended meaning.

However, here's another interpretation, from the running community.

You buy 4 bottles of beer.

You go with other competitors to a quarter-mile track.

You drink one beer. You run one lap.

You drink another beer. You run another lap.

You drink another beer. You run another lap.

You drink your last beer. You run your last lap.

The winner is the one who has the lowest time for doing all that.

This is called a beer mile.

They occur in various cities in N. America.

We had one here a few weeks ago.

You don't drive yourself home.

Cheers, Clive

Hey, Clive!

Is there a spot designated as a "pit stop"?  You do know, don't you, that the reason beer goes through you so quickly is that it doesn't have to stop to change color?!?

Thank you, guys !

Clive, your beer run interpretation really takes the cake - I think I would be big into that game, had I known about it
