On a birh certificate could the abbreviation DO stand for obstetrician?

I think that would be very unusual, or ill-advised.  "OB" is the usual. (Perhaps it was filled in by someone else.)

"DO" is an optometrist or an osteopath

Yes, Doctor of Obstetrics is often refered to as a DO, and my or may not have MD associated with it as well

I suspected that, as I believe the OP did, but I was unable to find a single confirmation on the web   -   but then, I only spent 20 minutes or so.

DO is Doctor of Osteopathy.

It is also discussed in a thread that goes on for pages and pages, giving this information over and over.

If you want the one for the Doctor of Optometry, it's OD.

I'm locking the thread before it simply takes on the same form as the other thread. Four years of 128 people giving the same answer over and over.
