Hi everybody,

I'm a free lance conference interpreter and would like to specialize in the medical field to work in hospitals, ERs, surgeries etc. In Italy where I live and work it seems quite hard to find the write ESP courses and the ad hoc bibliography (dialogue doctor/patient, medical phrases, ect). Do you have any suggestions or hints?

thanks a lot

Monica - If you are interested in working on medical termanology and discussing disease states, www.hospitalenglish.com has some disease state directors that might be useful for you.  The articles are on-line and you can listen to them as well.  The on-line quizzes won't be available until July but you still may find some value in the site as is.  There is advice for self-study and a click and listen keyword vocabulary section with each article.

It isn't a certification course, but it should be helpful to you.

An excellent book for those learning medical terminology is "The Language of Medicine," by Chabner.

Here's a link to it on amazon.com:

There's a new school called Language Link that specializes in Medical English courses online for your purpose. The website is www.languagelink1.com.
