FACS actually stands for Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. FACP is for a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. The AMA does not grant fellowship status.

Ran across your reply to a previous question and want to thank you for your reply.  I have been looking for any form of deciphering all of the new abbreviations, i.e. CCRN, ADN, AFEE etc.  should you have any information on these abbreviations again, I would be most thankful.  Charlene
Thank you for your help, and stay dry.

Perhaps you could read the thread. It's in here. More than once. Or you could just go here, the first page fo the thread, in which it is explained in detail.

What does D. O. mean after a  infectious desease doctors name?

Clive  +  484193 Sun, 02 Mar 08 09:09 PM

Hi,

As far as I know, it refers to doctors of osteopathy.

What do you mean when you say 'an infectious disease doctor'?

Best wishes, Clive

CK stands for creatine kinase, is is a useful marker for diagnosing cardiac distress to rule out a heart attack and some kidney disorders.  There usually is a total CK and then a Myoglobin CK (CK-MB) is more specific to cardiac distress.  -PennCCRN
