DO - Doctor of Osteopathy - After acquiring an undergraduate degree, a DO completes four years of basic medical education and two to six years of residency in a specialty area. They also must pass a state license exam. DOs practice a "whole person" approach to medicine, verses treating specific symptoms or illnesses. They also receive extra training in the musculoskeletal system and osteopathic manipulative treatment

Hi,

D.O. is simply another name for medical doctor degree (specifically: Doctor of osteopathic medicine). It is basically the same as M.D., MBBS or any other degree from which you can become a medical doctor or surgeon. D.O. actually learn a little bit extra on top of the traditional M.D. curriculum. D.O.s are big on using their hands to diagnose and may perform osteopathic manual medicine on top of all the MD stuff. I am a current first year medical student in D.O. program.
