What does DO stand for after a doctors name?
Melodie  +  74666 Thu, 17 Feb 05 07:02 PM
Doctor of Optometry.

By the way... do you know what else DO means? Drug Overdose.

Do you know what DOA means? Dead on Arrival.

Can you imagine the error of putting the wrong intitials after a doctor's name? (Ha-ha... just some dark nursing humour!)

Have a nice day!

What does F.A.B.O stand for? It follows the title M.D. much like F.A.C.S would follow M.D. Thank you very much.

Does anybody know what the C.S.S.T title or certificate stand for? A Spanish doctor needs it before practicing in London.

You require this if you wish to work in a more senior post (e.g. Consultant) as a specialist. It stands for:

"Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training"

Can you give us some context please? It could mean a host of things, from Paediatric Surgeon to Plastic Surgeon to the American Pituitary Society! Smile [:)]

Hi...
Abbey is right. We need some context. Where and how are you using these abbreviations? Personally, I think they might actually mean Auto-immune Polyendocrine Syndrome, a type of auto-immune disease. (Frankly, this is one reason I prefer people with health care AND ESL/EFL backgrounds to teach this subject.) My second question would be... are you using words like this in a classroom? If so, why in the world are you using something so obscure? What is its relevance or usefulness? I am not trying to be critical. I am alway, always very interested to hear who is teaching what, to whom, why, and also who is studying what and why. Please share if you have a moment.

Oh, yes, did you also know that APS could be a medical billing company in Australia or the States?

Bye for now...

OD stands for Occus Dexter which is Latin for "right eye."

od also stand for "omne in die" - once a day ( a prescribing term) and a host of other things!!

Context is everything. Smile [:)]
