Personally, I think they might actually mean Auto-immune Polyendocrine Syndrome, a type of auto-immune disease. (Frankly, this is one reason I prefer people with health care AND ESL/EFL backgrounds to teach this subject.) My second question would be... are you using words like this in a classroom? If so, why in the world are you using something so obscure? What is its relevance or usefulness? I am not trying to be critical.
