You wrote that DO stands for Doctor of optometry.   I have found that OD stands for Doctor of optometry and DO is Doctor of Osteopathy.

Do means Doctor of Osteopathy in USA in Europe there is the abbreviation for a full educated osteoath who run a trainy as an osteopath with a dissertation for his or her dipoma. In the european context it mean to have a standard in pormal education as an osteopath
