the song is called "The Unforgiven" and the line u are refering to is "I dub thee unforgiven" which thee is just another word for "you" that alot of poets used to use. So in other words what he is saying is "I dub you unforgiven"
and to me this song has to do more with "being yourself" and showing what you really mean, the old man died regretfully because he never did what he truly wanted to do and he said he was bitter maybe he regreted being biter and thats not really wanted to do but its how he was raised. idk all that stuff is up for debate but the line in the song is in no question I dub thee
(edited) The song is "the unfrogiven" but in the song he says i dub thee unforgiven. In the song he is talking about him growing up and about all the things that people did wrong to him and expected him to do. he tries to please every1 but cant and is forced to fight a batltle he cannot win. They(whoever "they is") labled him as always doing things wrong and as he grew up he never forgave them thus the line "I dub thee unforgivin". Metallica's lyrics are not just other american songs that are used to just make stuff rhyme and ne1 that has ever head a Metallica song will agree with that. Just for proof here are the lyrics to the song:
New blood joins this earth And quickly he's subdued Through constant pain disgrace The young boy learns their rules
With time the child draws in This whipping boy done wrong Deprived of all his thoughts The young man struggles on and on he's known A vow unto his own That never from this day His will they'll take away
What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never be Never see Won't see what might have been
What I've felt What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown Never free Never me So I dub thee unforgiven
They dedicate their lives To running all of his He tries to please them all This bitter man he is Throughout his life the same He's battled constantly This fight he cannot win A tired man they see no longer cares The old man then prepares To die regretfully That old man here is me (this is where he says that this song is about him)
You labeled me I'll label you So I dub thee unforgiven
with 'the' it would make alot less sense
'because not many american songs have thee in them' is not a very good explanation, you could say it's a bit bombastic, which goes with the music
also i guess the odd word here is just dub
There are only two parties in the song: (1) the siner and (2) the society. This is story about a boy who became a beast and his ignorant mother -society.
Yes, we (all of us) let him down. And he will not forgive us because we (society) are the one who are waching while inocent boy became a beast.
And now we are here to judge him and blame him and only him for everything that happened without thinking that he is product of our society and that our ignorancy helped him to become what he is.....man on death row....
