Dear teachers,

Did Joe have an excuse for missing work yesterday?

Does the sentence above mean whether Joe has an excuse for not being at work yesterday?

Please advise.

Yes.

Joe wasn't there yesterday.

Today, he showed up. Did he have an excuse for missing work?
