All kidding aside, I really don't feel like downloading and listening to the thing again, but I will say that there are any number of reasons that might explain why he pronounced the word "as" more clearly than you might think would be usual: - It might simply be a reflection of his personal speaking style; - Perhaps someone had just said "not as simple" (i.e. context related) and he was contracting/clarifying; - Perhaps someone poked him in the ribs just as he was uttering the word "as". - Etc.
