“The intonation seems OK to me. It seems to me he stresses the word "in" simply to highlight the difference (from vs in). Is that what you were wondering about, Kooyeen?”

No, I was wondering about "as simple as the boss said", where I hear the first "as" stressed. I would put the stress on "simple" in a sentence like that, and the first "as" would be in the weak form, like "uz". Am I insane?

Yes.

All kidding aside, I really don't feel like downloading and listening to the thing again, but I will say that there are any number of reasons that might explain why he pronounced the word "as" more clearly than you might think would be usual:

- It might simply be a reflection of his personal speaking style;

- Perhaps someone had just said "not as simple" (i.e. context related) and he was contracting/clarifying;

- Perhaps someone poked him in the ribs just as he was uttering the word "as".

- Etc.

I had thought of that one, but I hadn't thought of someone poking him in the ribs, LOL. Thanks!
