ex) I have more than one phone number/numbers.

Is it just 'number' or 'numbers'?

Since the phrase, 'more than' already has the meaning of plural, it's confusing.

I'm almost sure it's just 'number', but... I still need some answers! Smile [:)]

Thanks in advance! Smile [:)]

The answer comes from the use of the word "one" in your example.

I have more than one phone number. (singular)

I have more than two siblings. (plural)

Hello JC

"I have more than one X"

Suppose you take "more than one" as a numeral to modify X.
Then X should be inevitably plural and you will make a sentence like :
I have (more than one) apples.
But it is wrong.

Rather you have to take "than one X" as a phrase to modify "more" from back.
Then you can make a correct sentence like :
I have more (than one apple).
