Google "phrasal verbs".

Take just about any one-syllable non-Latinate verb, like "come, go, turn, pick, bring, take, put, get, give" and add one of the particles "up, down, in, out, on, off, away, back, " and you're bound to get some kind of phrasal verb!

get back, take back, take up, pick up, bring out, pick out, come down, ...

These often have both a literal and an idiomatic meaning.
