Hi everybody.I'm desperate. I wrote a letter of motivation, but it sound a lit bit cheesy. Can somebody help me out?
Education is a key to meaningful self-development and success. I decided to cast my lot with international relations and have given my top priority to International relations department at the Belorussian State University, the most prestigious university in our country. Now I aspire to crown my education with Master’s program in international relations in the USA. My desire and choice to study in the USA are far not groundless.
The USA is a key actor in the international arena with rich diplomatic traditions and without exaggerating a most prominent scientific school of international relations. The USA is a smithy of outstanding diplomats and scholars of international relations, such as Samuel Huntington, Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinski. The country provides high quality education and vast opportunities for research in this sphere.
I really admire the practical approach to international relations as a scientific discipline. There’s a great amount of think tanks, strategic centers elaborating state strategies, recommendations and international projects. Unfortunately there’s no such practice in Belarus. In my native country the theoretical approach to the discipline and soviet methods of research prevail. I got a lot of information but I don’t know how to apply it for the sake of my country. I’m a mere theoretic. But my passion is to practice international relations. I’m sure that my studies in the United States will help me to obtain the essential practical skills.
I have been studying English for fifteen years and I feel up to getting education in this language. I can’t miss this opportunity. English can become not only the object of y studies, but the means of my getting education. I want my language skills work.
To become a genuine professional in the sphere of international relations and to make my contribution to it I badly need to form an objective image of the United States. I’d like to spend some time inside the American society, to breathe the spirit of this country and to really feel it. Unfortunately now I have a blurred image of the USA imposed by belorussian media. At the same time I’d have an opportunity to share my knowledge of belorussian history and rich culture with American students as I did during my studies in Sweden. It’s amazing to be a link between two cultures and to help people look at your Motherland in another way through the prism of your commitment and admiration.
I’d like to identify the common ground for cooperation between Belarus, the USA and other democratic nations. I want my country with unique cultural heritage and glorious past to be in one team with highly developed democratic countries and not on the margin of the international arena.
To be more precise, my ambition is to promote the triangle Belarus-USA-Sweden. I understood that, when I translated for the project, involving the Ministry for Emergency situations of the Republic of Belarus, led by International Finance Corporation, inspired and financed by the SIDA (Swedish international development cooperation agency). In the framework of the triangle it is possible to reduce the existing tensions between Belarus and the USA, as Sweden with its socially-oriented economy system similar to the belorussian one and its traditional neutrality, will play the role of amortization. Various projects in different spheres within the triangle will without doubt result in fruitful cooperation. The foundation for it has already been laid by the IFC and the SIDA. I would like to contribute to their work or initiate new projects involving only Belarus, the USA and Sweden. I’m sure my enthusiasm, language skills, knowledge acquired in Belarus and Sweden will help me. The thing I lack for working in this direction is the skills and experience that I can obtain only in the United States. With a solid foundation in academic theory on international relations, intensive research and practical activities implemented through the Master’s program in the USA, I am confident that I will have the skills, knowledge and contacts that will enable me to organize international projects in my country.
In conclusion, I would like to point out that I’m really grateful to such countries as the USA and Sweden, that conduct such educational programs for belorussian students and share their experience with us. It is we, who will determine the future of our country.
