L.S.

For my application for a master´s programme at the University of Amsterdam (International School of Humanities and Social Sciences) I need to write a letter of motivation containing the following:

- Why do you wish to study at the ISHSS

- Which subject/areas do you find most interesting and why?

- Do you have any relevant working experience?

- What career would you like to pursue after completion of your master studies

Below the draft I started with, since I´m not a native speaker I have my doubts. Is this a good start, I am answering the questions above properly, is the level of English suffiecient?

Hopefully I can get some feed back on this, Thanks!

I would like to apply for the master´s programme Labour and Organisation Studies, please let me explain my motivation in a few words.

I am a student in communication science and I also take a minor in labour studies.

Last year I participated in the bachelor seminar Media Globalisation, which is a course in the undergraduate programme of the ISHSS. Taking part in this seminar has been a great opportunity to work with international students and it was a great learning experience. I learned about the master´s programme´s  at ISHSS through other international students and the website. Since I was already taking an elective course in the field of labour and organisation, the COLOS programme immediately draw my attention,.

Deciding to apply for this master´s programme, meant I needed more sufficient knowledge in the field of labour and organisation studies. The Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies offers a minor in labour studies. I started this minor in September last year and it has been a good experience. Taking the different courses in the minor programme made my interest in labour and organisation grow. After the mini lectures and programme meetings at ISHSS this year, I was even more convinced the COLOS master´s programme fits my interest in this academic field perfectly.

My hope is to get more theoretical knowledge in the field of labour and organisation studies from different perspectives, such as a political, sociological and economical perspective. The comparative element in this programme is a good opportunity to expand my knowledge about labour markets, employment relations and organizations policies in other countries. Furthermore the programme offers me the opportunity to study with national and international students and possibly participate in the international exchange programme.

so far so....?
