Oh, sorry Woodward, I'm an Aussie. So when students ask me whether I teach American English or the Queen's English, I can honestly say both! I must admit I prefer British English myself, mainly because it is much easier for non natives to understand the distinct sounds of British pronunciation. Sometimes in class deliberately I put on a British accent!
Which international identity do you think has the most easily understandable English ponunciation?

Teaching in Chile is great. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing your students advance and improve. Especially when they start from the basics where it is more noticeable.
You are right when you say that you learn so much about the culture and people in general. You are a teacher but at the same time you are learning. I think I mentioned this in another post somewhere a long the line. I am slowly creating more and more info about Chile in English on my website (and NZ too). In theory English is compulsory at school in Chile but the quality is not very good (downright bad sometimes) unless you have enough money to go to a bilingual school. With a new Free Trade agreement between Chile and the US, the govt is only just beginning to take English seriously.
So, what part of the west island, oops, I meant Australia are you from?Wink [;)]

Ha Ha Ha .....
Sydney. Do you know it? Maybe you have friends and relatives there? Maybe in Bondi - aka Greater Wellington? Smile [:)]
Wow Chile spans so far!! Are there many cultural differences between the north and the south?
How did you come to be there?

This may seem strange but I have never been to Australia (it being so close and all).
My first trip out of my country was when I was 22 and I wanted to learn another language so for some reason I chose Spanish and I my intention was to travel through South America. It just so happened that the first country I landed in was Chile. I stayed here for a year, returned home (to NZ) and saved money over two years to go travelling again. I wanted to go to France to learn French but I thought I would stop off in Chile on the way for about 3 weeks to visit friends. Those three weeks have now turned into over 6 years (I got a little sidetracked).
I will post the differences about the north and South of Chile in another thread.

Yeah, it's kinda funny how an arbitrary decision can affect the rest of one's life, or at least a big part of it.
You've never been toAust.? I've never been to NZ either. I'm told that apart from the topography and a few degrees difference in temperature, they're not too dissimilar. Oh, there is one big and important difference .... Aussie beer tastes better!!! I do admit that Kiwi's probably show more respect for the correct use of English than Aussies, but the correct use of sheep is another matter Smile [:)]
Sorry I couldn't resist throwing that in.
