Hi,

Should I use a past perfect or can I prevail if I use a past?

1.Fictitious Scene: I have a lot money and involved in a number of philanthropic efforts. I went to one place I give money regularly to and found that people were looking at me like I am the only benefactor, which I am not (as I am sure of it). Through money they get, they were able to help a man who couldn't walk to get medical help and walk again.

Do I have to use a past perfect here?

Why do you looking  at me as if by my own philanthropic gestures, I had made this man walk?

2. Fictitious Scene: I have made a commitment/gave a promise  to give money regularly to an organization. They didn't get money for a month, which they should have gotten it since I give money every month.

Do I have to use a past perfect? Can I use a past?

I deposited my money on your bank account. This is how I fulfill what I had promised every month. Didn't you know?

Anon,

Your first two sentences seem to be okay to me. However, I have a problem with your last sentence.
