Hello,

Can anyone help me understand the sentence -"my hear burdened be" from "Your Raise Me Up" sung by Gosh Groban?"

I'm just wondering what would be the grammatical/semantic function(s) of "BE" at the end of the sentence.

Also I just want to know why definite article "THE" is used before "SILENCE".

"When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;

 When troubles come and my heart burdened be;

 Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,

 Until you come and sit awhile with me"

Thank you so much for your answer in advance!!

It simply means:

my hear is burdened

in a quite old fashion.

"Be" is used there for rhyming with "me."

Forget about learning grammar from song lyrics.

"The" is used only for rhythm, not for grammatical reasons.  Or it could mean "in that particular silence."

 >When troubles come and my heart burdened be

It could also mean, and then there's some grammar behind it:

When/If troubles come and my heart be burdened

in which both come and be are present subjunctives

with the meaning:

If troubles should/would come and my heart should/would be burdened

or more approximate:

 If troubles are coming and my heart is burdened
