Hi friends,

Since I'm just a beginner, I'm able to write simple poems for now but I am planning to improve it.I'll be glad to you if you find out my mistakes.Here it is;

E UNICO

Mi piace il sole,mi piace il mare

In Aprile andiamo a Hawaii dunque

Adesso devo andare mio unico maestra

Per il momento,arrivederla...

-------------------------------------------------

YOU ARE UNIQUE

I like sun,I like sea

We go to Hawaii in April then

If I have much money and a fantastic house there

I can say nothing but "Very well!"

I wanna do something for someone special

But it isn't something small

It's very big,it's very cordial

It's a moonlight in the sea

'Cause you have an irreplaceable heart.

I like everything about you

We go to Hawaii at six o'clock

Now I have to go my unique teacher

Goodbye for now...

This may be poetic in Italian, but in English it is just a poorly structured email love note.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

Hi Dj Bueno, congratulations for your effort! Actually your italian isn't too right, if you want I do some adjustment translating from english:

TU SEI UNICO

Mi piace il sole,mi piace il mare
dunque in Aprile andiamo alle Hawaii
Se avessi molti soldi e una casa fastastica laggiù
Potrei  soltanto dire "molto bene!"

Voglio fare qualcosa per qualcuno di speciale
Non é una piccola cosa,
è molto grande, è molto cordiale
(with cordial you mean that it comes from the heart? If it's this you can say: che viene dal cuore)
è il chiaro di luna al mare (There was "W" in italian version and "it's" in english which is the right?)
Perché tu hai un cuore singolare.

Mi piace tutto di te
Andiamo a Hawaii alle sei
Adesso devo andare mio unico maestro
Per il momento, arrivederci

If you need help in italian ask me, even via e-mail! CiaoBig Smile [:D]

Grazie Francesca.Yeah,my mistake..It should have been "é" not "w". Lol,so many mistakes.. Smile [:)]

Not so many mistakes!!! Italian is difficult even for italian people! I see a mistake in my translation, this is the correction:

Mi piace tutto di te
Andiamo alle Hawaii alle sei
Adesso devo andare mio unico maestro
Per il momento, arrivederci

Ciao Ciao!

thanks again Smile [:)] by the way does "tu sei" mean "you are"? I mean do we use é only to describe the lifeless things?
Francesca  +  162200 Thu, 24 Nov 05 04:39 PM

Yes, you are=tu sei.

"è" is the third person of verb to be, è=is. In italian "é" is used with things and persons. I think your translator translates "you are unique" like "è unico" because it uses the "respect, or courtesy form"; this is a tipical italian form that you generally have to use when you talk with someone older than you, or with your teachers, or with someone you didn't ever meet.

I try to make an example:

You meet an old woman and you ask her: "How are you?". The literal translation in italian is: "Come stai (tu)?", but according with "courtesy form" it become "Come sta (lei)?" and the literal english translation of this one is "How is she?"

I put "tu" and "lei" between brackets because sometimes in italian  you don't need to specify subject

It's not easy to explain, I hope it's clearWink [;)]

To begin with I have to mention that I don't have an Italian-English translator Smile [:)] I wrote it by myself(of course my dictionary helped me but I can say it is a piece of my own struggle) and secondly to tell the truth this poem is dedicated to my English teacher. You guessed correctly! Thanks for your explanations.
