i need help in my essay. it called Film log. I should talk about the film i saw in different thing. this is my log for to sir with love and the problem is i should write it in 300 words only and i wrote them in 444 words. please help me. my teacher think i shold write in more acadimic way.
Film viewing log one (To Sir, With Love)
The editor illustrated the social and cultural values of this movie through different shots and frames; to show us how was life in England in the late 1960s. He illustrated the low socio economics through presenting the old area in London, the old messy school, young smoker boys and some bad students' reactions in and out side the classroom.
The director also used different elements of movies such as scripting and actors' performance to show us that in that time there was racism between people. For example when Mr. Thackeray, a new teacher, arrived to the school and met the staff, a teacher called him “black sheep”and through that the e director shown the teacher face while he resent Mr. Thackeray.
The editor discussed different issues, which affected Mr Thackeray and the students in this school. Through mise-en-scene, fast short shots and script to illustrate the bad students' behaviour such as, in the classroom they watched bad pictures, read unsuitable magazines to their age, playing with different things, chewing gums and drawing. These different things showed us that the students were unmotivated, rude and aimless.
Family problems were shown as one of the main problems that affected the students. This was conveyed through Mise-en-scene and script such as when Pamela’s mother come to the teacher because her daughter was backing home very late. When the teacher discussed that with Pamela she told him that her mother divorced from her father and she doesn't love her and one day she found her mother with her friend in her home. So because of that the audience could understand that the students’ behaviours are the result of family problems and their environment. Which affect students about school as not important for them.
In this movie we could realise different sides of teachers. The director used performance and shots to show Mr Thackeray, who is a tidy, respect, and powerful teacher and he is opposite to teachers in this school who were exhausted and cannot deal with these students.
In this movie the song of “To sir, with love” which was sang by LULU was played three times which really involved the audience emotionally with this movie. The first time was at the beginning of the movie, and then when they visited the museum and for that the director showed and edited different short shots and for what were the students do and how they were happy. Finally at the end of the movie when the students wanted to thank Mr Thackery and LULU sang it, the director showed us different shots of the students’ faces, LULU and Mr Thackery and he panning the camera around the place.
