Both are okay. I personally like the second or latter sentence better. But that is merely personal preference.

If you google "met with an accident" (quotes required) and "had an accident", you will see that these are both very commonly used.

If you say "I met with an accident" you're trying to put a humourous spin on things. "I had an accident" is very factual in most cases.
