Hello all,

I would like some help on how to write a character reference or at least what would be appropriate to say. I’ve done searches, but they all mostly job hunting or legal, nothing which could be used in this situation.

Here is the background:

My friend is about to go through divorce proceedings. Towards the end of her marriage, she became ill and her husband refused to acknowledge the illness, the diagnose and treatment. Long story short, he is accusing her of mental instability. She has the medical records from the doctors stating the truth but she also needs letters from friends to add the “non clinical” value.

What would be appropriate wording to say in this situation?

Any help which could be given would be much appreciated.

.

Hi,

We specialize in helping with English. We are not lawyers or medical experts.

You have to decide what you want to say. Is it possible to get advice from your friend's lawyer?

A character reference is just basically a way for you to tell people what kind of person she is. In general terms, I'd think you should just stick to what you have observed yourself.

Why don't you try to write something and post it, and then we can give you feedback about the English?

Best wishes, Clive
