It's the new TV season and we all know what that means, don't we?

Uh-huh...
CANCELLATIONS!
So I hereby institute the first annual New Season Dead Pool.

First to go:
+++
Bones
Kitchen Confidential
Martha Stewart Apprentice may not get cancelled, but it won't be back (and no, I haven't seen it yet).

"Kitchen Confidential"

If anyone had a reason to like this show, it's me. I'm a huge fan of the original book, and I pretty much think Anthony Bourdain walks on water when it comes to popularizing the restaurant/food world (if you haven't seen A Cook's Tour or No Reservations, you owe it to yourself to set the TiVo); plus, his Les Halles restaurants are the real deal, food-wise. I'm always interested in the restaurant business (it's what I'd probably be doing if this writing thing hadn't panned out), and I'm probably the only person in American who, after putting himself through the televised hell that was The Restaurant actually stuck around, watched, and enjoyed Hell's Kitchen (as well as Gordon Ramsey's superior show on the BBC, name forgotten).

So I was pretty much determined to love Kitchen Confidential.

And...
Ooof.
Ouch.
Eeek.
So, yeah, if after all that, it couldn't even suck me in, I have a feeling it ain't gonna catch on...
As for my suggestion for the early cancellation pool: JUST LEGAL on the WB. Didn't see it, but I saw the numbers, and my friends who work on WB shows (poor things) say the mood is sour over there...

Is "Stacks" cancelled yet? I watched about 2 nanoseconds of it once, and I can't believe that a show whose title references the *** of its co- star (Pamela Anderson) would last much longer than that.

"Kitchen Confidential"

The latest in a long line of You Don't Know Jack contenders.

Yet *another* show whose main character is named Jack.

Let's see... it's based on Anthony Bourdain. So let's call him Jack Bourdain. Yeah, why not? The lead on Lost is also named Jack. Along with EVERY OTHER *** MALE LEAD YOU CARE TO MENTION so, yeah. Jack it is. Makes perfect sense.

Winner: HEAD CASES on Fox.
First show did a 6.4, second did a 3.1, so Fox said bye-bye.

I didn't have Head Cases in my New Season Dead Pool because I didn't even know that Head Cases existed. Hm.

Watched Criminal Minds last night always worth seeing Mandy Patinkin, and I dare say I'll tune in on occasion but um... it ain't gonna be must-see for me.
So far the biggest hit for me is My Name Is Earl. If they can keep up the standard of the pilot and if it isn't flying over the head of Middle America I thgink it could be huge.

Fox legal drama is first victim of new TV season
Fri Sep 23, 3:07 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Four days after the official launch of the fall television season, Fox has become the first network to ax a new show, dropping the quirky legal drama "Head Cases," Hollywood's trade papers reported in Friday editions.

The show, which starred
Chris O'Donnell and
Adam Goldberg as mismatched attorneys, averaged just 3.1 million viewers Wednesday, according to Nielsen Media Research. By contrast, the Emmy-winning drama "Lost" began its second season with 23.4 million viewers the same evening.
"Head Cases" got an early start on the season the week before when it attracted 6.2 million viewers, and its 50 percent drop was enough to prompt the News Corp.-owned network to advise the show's producers late Thursday that "Head" was dead.

Well, according to the "memorable quotes" listed on the Imdb, and the glowing user comments, and considering that most people volunteering "memorable" quotes and user comments are idiots, I imagine that it was only a matter of time.

I attended a focus group once that showed abbreviated pilots and then you scored them, likeliness to watch the show, etc. It was just horrible, the shows were truly terrible. The real problem was that most of the focus group were not average anything. Well below average actually, I'm surprised no one brought a goat. Of course who else would show up to one of those wastes of time? Well I did, but I was only 16 or 17 and thought it was going to be interesting. Anyway, the most entertaining part was watching the majority of the crowd laugh at the most inane garbage I had ever seen. Which I suppose might explain how some of it makes its way onto the airwaves.
