Could you help me to choose the correct sentence? Which sentence is more common?

1. No dollar was wasted for nothing.
2. No dollar was trifled away.
3. No dollar was chucked away.
4. No dollar was diddled.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Could you help me to choose the correct sentence? Which sentence is more common?

1. No dollar was wasted for nothing. This is OK, but don't say 'for nothing', because that idea is conveyed by the word 'wasted'.

2. No dollar was trifled away. Uncommon.
3. No dollar was chucked away. Uncommon.
4. No dollar was diddled. Not a correct use of the slang 'diddled', which usually means 'swindled'.

The phrase 'no dollar' is also uncommon. You'd much more often hear 'no money'.

Best wishes, Clive

Thank you, Clive.

Could I say: “ None of the dollars was wasted.”?

What do you think about these examples? Do they sound natural?

1. No repairer can repair this washing machine.
2. No repairer will be able to repair this washing machine.

I have to make up a few sentences with “No + singular noun”. Could you give me some examples with “No + singular noun”?

Hi,

Could I say: “ None of the dollars was wasted.”? You can, but it's not very natural.

What do you think about these examples? Do they sound natural?

1. No repairer can repair this washing machine.
2. No repairer will be able to repair this washing machine.

The repetition of 'repair' is unnatural.

Say 'no-one can . . . '

I have to make up a few sentences with “No + singular noun”. Could you give me some examples with “No + singular noun”?

I see 'No + singular' as usually giving emphasis.

eg No student is to run in the classroom.

eg No man is an island. (famous quotation)

Hi,

They all seem OK.

6. No money can ( be a ) substitute for freedom.
