A change had taken place in the weather the preceding evening,

and a keen north-cast wind, whistling through the crevices of

our bedroom windows all night long, had made us shiver in our

beds, and turned the contents of the ewers to ice.

Hi!

Above is from Jane Eyer by Charlotte Bronte.

The north-cast wind, is that a wind blowing from north or blowing toward north?

It must be a typo for 'north-east'.

Oh!  You are right. I looked once more, and it was "north-east wind".

Thanks...

I guess "north-east wind" is wind blowing from north-east....

Correct.  And the north-east wind in Yorkshire is particularly harsh and cold.
