 He grew up outside Philly.
PIayed point guard for Homestead High.
Got his first job on the obituary beat (the obit section in the paper?)

at the Liberty Times. That is where he first got noticed
as the editor in AIaska.(From there he was transfered to Alaska?)

First in sports, then-- Editor in sports section?

Your comments on the first and third are fine.  I can't find the logic in the second; the chronology seems erronious.
