My name is Sukhaloka. It was my great-grandmother's name, and sadly I have no clues as to its origin. There are no other Sukhalokas on this planet as far as I know - I tried Googling.

"Sukhaloka" means "the light of happiness". My surname, Mukherjee, comes from Mukhopadhyay - the governors of a village called Mukhoti. Mukherjee, though, is as common a surname in Bengal as Sukhaloka is rare.

Any other Sukhalokas... if you get to this site, please say hi to me. I'll be amazed and delighted!

Cheers,

 - Joy.

Hi Tearsofjoy,
Sukhaloka is really a rare name and it is very clear that it is a created name with sukh(happiness )+ alok(light)+a(a is added to make it feminine) and rather a bit odd to hear.It reminds me 'sukhi roti' and 'sukha chaol'Stick out tongue [:P]

Yay! Jhumjhum got it!

BTW, as you're a bengali, pronounce it "Shukhaloka" Wink [;)]. And I still get teased and called "Shukiye gechhe lekha" (the writing has dried up Tongue Tied [:S]). Can't make sense of that..

My name is Brendan which is very rare around here. It's Irish, but the only irish I have is on my dad's side and it is far down the line. I have a cousin named Nello, and my nickname is Ruhe which is German for peace and silence I think. I was an A.D.D kid lol.

Brendan? Remember me? MSN chats?

btw Joy, you're offline almost everytime...Sad [:(]Hmm [^o)]

I can't blame those who call you "Sukhiye gechhe lekha" because your name reminds dryness more than it reminds happiness.Big Smile [:D]

Taya, my name is Taya as well.  I am mixed from Southern and Eastern Cherokee and Southern Choctaw.  It is unlikely that Taya means, "she goes about singing."  It is a short name.  It is too short to mean that since all native languages words are longer than english ones.  It means, "Beaver."  Taken from Tayanita, or "Little or Young Beaver."  There ya go.  TAYA

My first name isn't odd (Claire) but my surname is quite unusual. Newens. Very few people can spell it correctly the first time round so I have the habit of (when they ask me my name) spelling it out everytime.

Two girls I know have odd names. Kajal (kar-jewel), that means "eye-liner". and, Chhaya, that means "shadow". Then everyone else has the usual sort of names (Anna, Laura, Lucy, Hannah, Sarah, Amy, Ashley, Tom, Sam, Adam, Alex (x3), etcetera... No offence to anyone with those names... They're just common names)

You are not an unique snowflake; you are the same decaying organic matter as everyone else. ~~~ Be optimistic. All the people you hate now will eventually die.

Hey, those are Indian names. And pretty common Indian names at that! Are these girls Indian?
