When John left the professor's office, he went back to his dorm, packing and stacking  his stuff and was ready to go home.

Is the above sentence correct?

Thank you

Thank you Clive,

Why is "packing and stacking" not correct?

Hi,

When John left the professor's office, he went back to his dorm, packing and stacking  his stuff and was ready to go home.

Why is "packing and stacking" not correct? It makes it sound like he was packing and stacking while he went back.

Consider He walked into the room smiling.

Best wishes, Clive
