I'm a bit confused about the following two sentences.  What do they mean?

1.  They're open late.

2.  They open late.

Thanks.

They are open late = they [the shop/office] stays open until late in the day

They open late = they (the shop/office] open their doors after the usual time

Thanks a lot, Feebs11.  So.. can I think ...

1.  They are open late. =  They are open until late (?).

2.  They open late. = They won't open until late.

...???

(I saw the TV add, one of these days, which says : We remind you: Arby's open late! or something like that.)

You have it correctlySmile [:)]  But I have a feeling the ad may in fact be intending to say the first.

Arby's is/stays open late!
The name of the place is Arby's. (Arby's is not a contraction of Arby is.)  Even if you go there quite late in the day, you will find them open.
