Stt 1: A test can be edited without having the software application open. Stt 2: A test can be edited without having the software application opened. I know stt 1 is correct. but can anyone help me explaining why Stt 1 is grammatically more correct than Stt 2.

having the software application open: means in the "open/active/on" state - the only correct

having the software application opened: means opening the sofware application, applying the action of opening to it.
