I have got an unseen and there is a question:
"Besides enabling a person to carry his or her things, what other function can a backpack serve, according to Mr.Nature?

According to what I have been explained about usage of other\another it should have been "another" here (it is one different, not specified function).
What do you think?
Tnanks in advance

'Another' is 'an other', and it cannot follow another determiner.

'What other function?'
'It has another function.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

Once I asked here a question about the usage of other\another and I was told that other implies about pliral and "another" implies abiut singular. (so are: the other - singular; the others - plural).
Isn't it correct? Can you please interpret a bit? Thanks

Another person is a Slav. (among several people)
The other person is a Slav. (between two people)
Other people are Slavs. (among several groups of people)
The other people are Slavs. (between two sets of people) These are deteminers.

The other is a Slav. (between two people)
The others are Slavs. (between two sets of people) These are pronouns.

As a pronoun, yes-- 'the other' is singular and 'the others' is plural.
