"overstock fights back"

1. What is overstock?

2. What does the whole quotes mean?

Thanks,

It would help if you give the context in which this phrase is used.  Overstock could be the name of a team (like Real Madrid/ Chelsea) or it could also be the name of a company.

Hi ,

Sorry, there's no context. If you're familiar with stock market, probably you would know what it means.

It 's related to the stock market on the Wall Street. I don't think 'overstock' is the name of a team or company.

Thanks for the reply.

I have to say I think Benita is right.

I work with the stock market and am in constant dealings with brokers and traders as part of my job. Without seeing the original text I can't be sure, however I would guess this relates to Overstock.com, an online company that recently floated on the market and it's unexpected success.

Hi rwiles,

Maybe you are right. Overstock means overstock.com.

I'm wondering why the company picked up such a name as 'overstock'? Do you have any idea?

Thanks for the reply.

Well, they are an online shopping outlet company.................I would assume it's something to do with them selling their surpluss stock?

Hi rwiles,

Thanks for the follow-up.

_______

I'm a little confused about the introduction of yourself. You live in England and work in Germany. Do you commute everyday?

Yeah I was wondering that too, rwiles!
