Hi guys,

Please may I ask your for another help? Please if a woman say about the father of her child:

Tell him I'm going to the cops if he doesn't own up to the baby.

What confusses me is that phrase own up...:-(( Please what does it mean? Can it be paraphrased as

Tell him I'm going to the cops if he will not be paying up for the children.

or does it mean

Tell him I'm going to the cops if he will not realize that he is the father of my child.

Please what exactly means own up in that context? What are other options of how this sentence can be taken?

thank you in advance!

regards

I don't see what got you confused, JC.

Own up means to confess.

Hi Madhulk,

Of course, I found own up phrase in my dictionary, but I didn't know what does it mean..Sad..You personally, how would you describe this process? If someone confesses that he is the father of the baby, what does he actually do? Does it mean that he has to sign some kind of birth papers, where he is stated as the father? Or does it mean that he has to sign a form, where he claims that he will be paying up on the baby??? Or does it mean just that he realize that he has the baby and he has to act like that?

Nona's answer helped me in this hesitation..

regards

JCD

You can't tell exactly what action the mother wants him to take other than to admit 'yes, that baby is mine'. Whether to go on the birth certificate, to pay child maintenance, to play the father's role, or to take some other action or just to admit that she is right, we can't tell from just that phrase.
