"Here's how my thinking has evolved. I started out thinking that if I just write something good enough, I'll get ... also have to become a writer. A big part of that is the ability to work quickly, consistently, and well."
That's the key to doing anything on a professional level. It's never about doing the very best that can possily be done, ever, in the history of the world. It's about doing the best that you can do within the parameters defined by the people writing the cheques. And, of course, having your best be acceptible to those people, even if their idea of 'good' is different than yours. I've designed some butt- ugly sets because the director's vision was, shall we say, unique.
"So that's where I'm at. I'm working on producing good work, and producing it quickly."
The next step is the really hard one - that's producing good work, to deadline, that reflects someone else's notes. I've never tried this idea myself but you might - just for the learning experience - pick one person on TriggerStreet whose review you're going to treat as 'notes,' and then do a 4-6 week (maximum) rewrite to incorporate those notes. Send that person the rewrite and see what he or she has to say.
For what it's worth...
