  2. If it induces us to approach them.
  3. If it makes us to dwell upon them.
  4. Such a catastrophe touches us in history as mush as in fable.
  5. Our delight is very greatly heightened.
  6. If the sufferer be some excellent person who sinks unworthy situation.
  7. when it does not press too close
  8. Whether the misfortune is before our eyes, or whether they are turned back to it in history.
  9. The delight hinders us from shunning scene of misery.
  10. Pain prompts us to relieve ourselves in relieving those who suffer.

Hi, Punchi,  Welcome to English Forums.  Thanks for joining us!

Don't feel badly.  I've read some of them seven or eight times and don't know what they mean.  Several of them are not sentences, which makes it even more difficult.

“ 1. Let the affection be what it will in appearance.  Allow people to seem the way they want to seem.

2. If it induces us to approach them.  If X causes/persuades us to speak to them about the matter.

3. If it makes us to dwell upon them.  If X causes/persuades us to continue to be concerned about Y.

4. Such a catastrophe touches us in history as mush as in fable.  ?? Horrific events occur in the real world,  not just in fantasy.

5. Our delight is very greatly heightened. Our pleasure is made even greater.

6. If the sufferer be some excellent person who sinks unworthy situation.(something is missing)  Oh how the mighty have fallen   /   If the person who has experienced this misfortune is someone of high degree  (It's not clear if he deserved it or didn't deserve it.)

7. When it does not press too close  When X does not impose into something personal

8. Whether the misfortune is before our eyes, or whether they are turned back to it in history.  It doesn't matter if it's happening in the present or if it has happened in the past.

9. The delight hinders us from shunning scene of misery.  When we look at / consider some sad situation, we don't think of it as being an evil, because (for some reason ???) we take pleasure in it.

10, Pain prompts us to relieve ourselves in relieving those who suffer.  ???  We seek to aid the unfortunate, because we feel their pain.

  Best wishes,  - A.
