Meaning to overcome scare and be enlightment? 

This appears when a gilr reads the profile of a filmmaker.

Then she says:"To think I was just

watching scary movies for fun." 

Does she mean that she thought she was

nuts but that guy is even more cracked?

No, I'm not sure how you got that idea. She is saying that she didn't realise she could learn something from scary movies.
