Dear English Forums team,
My name is Yusuf,
I just start and join this forum,
I hope I can learn and receive advise from all of you
Thanks
Yusuf
I start writing the personal statement or motivation letter that is required for admission to TU Delft University, Netherlands.

Commitment and Motivation of Studies Continuation in Offshore Technology Group, Delft University of Technology, TU Delft
Studies, which are a continuation process, need to be carried out by everybody. People can learn from informal institutions such as a practical experience from themselves or others. However, they could also learn from formal institutions like schools and universities that are based on theoretical and research approach. Offshore engineering study, which is one of the most interesting knowledge in the world, is waiting to be explored furthermore by formal or informal ways that are related and support each other.
I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, University of Indonesia in August 2001. In fact, I recognised water science at the first grade when I took Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Class. However I find it out in more detail after attending classes: "Special case: water resource "Groundwater resource.
I chose to study further by attempting it as a thesis topic of my undergraduate final project. My Undergraduate Final Project ‘s entitle "Computer Model Development on Groundwater flow at Saturated Zone with 3 Dimensional Analysis" was granted by grade A.
I had a good knowledge in mathematics, hydraulics and fluid mechanics, which are a basic lesson of water resource knowledge.
I joined with the Hydraulic, Hydrology and River Laboratory as a lecture assistant at February 2001. Furthermore, I was promoted as a lecture assistant coordinator in that laboratory to guide students in doing practical study related to hydraulic subject such as buoyancy, metacentric height and other module related to water pressure. Also, I monitored and supervised all practical activities schedule that are guided by other lecture assistant being implemented in a timely manner.
Other activity that I followed to improve my water knowledge is, being a committee member of international seminar with the topic "High Performance Concrete and Underwater Concreting", which is organised by French Embassy and Construction and Structural Studies Centre University of Indonesia at Gran Melia Hotel Jakarta, in March 2001.
Finally, I face real offshore life when Saipem assigned me as a junior installation engineer. Next, they provided me training for three-month period from February 2002. Moreover, I received an assignment as a Saipem contractor representative at Gunanusa Fabrication Yard Cilegon West Java, Indonesia, which Saipem coordinated with, during Peciko-3 Project SWP-G Platform. Total Finaelf E & P Indonesie, who was the Client, awarded the project to Saipem for the period starting May up to June 2002. Those projects consisted of the installation of SWP-G Platform (fixed platform with 4 legs) complete with jacket and deck, which was supported by foundation of leg piles, drilling conductors pipe, vent boom, and boatlanding/boatfender, which is a structure built to resist the force from boats / supply vessels that are moored to the platform. I was a junior field installation engineer on the anchor type of heavy lift vessel that followed and assisted the offshore crew to install the platform as per scope of work in contract and client specification.
After completion of Peciko-3 Project, I was assigned as an installation engineer for Peciko-4 project, which was a continuation of Peciko field development that had work’s scope to install new interconnecting pipelines between MWP-A, MWP-B, MWP-C, SWP-G and Onshore Facilities. Also, it had to install two (2) new Platforms (SWP-E and SWP-K Platform) complete with their facilities, such as: Jacket with leg piles (145 m target penetration), 12 pieces wellhead conductor pipe (125 m target penetration), Vent Boom, boatlanding/boatfender and Deck Modules. Prior to pipeline and platform installation activities are started, the pre-installation survey activity needed to be carried out to investigate the actual existing line route, actual water depth and soil condition at the field. Those survey results would be as a reference for pipeline laying, pipeline crossing support and footprint of platform position for installation. I was a Saipem representative who was responsible for the pre installation survey operation that was supported by ROV 3), sub bottom profiling, echo sounder and bathymetric activity. In the other hand, I was also involved from platform engineering design (in example reviewing the platform on bottom stability and pile driveability analysis) and fabrication until installation by the heavy lift dynamic positioning vessel, which I followed as an installation engineer who was responsible to achieve the compliance with International Standard and Client Specification as described in the contract or the scope of work.
The new project that I am currently working is "Third Transmission Pipeline Project" with contract "Platform Offshore System". The Client, who awarded the project to Saipem, is PTT (Petroleum Authority Thailand) with American Offshore Engineering Company, Bechtel as the consultant.
Those experiences are part of my offshore knowledge achieve from practical way by understanding the latest implementation that are used by offshore industrials. However, I need to do improvement, particularly to understand the design, fabrication, transportation and installation in theoretical basis as shown on Tudelft Offshore Technology curriculum. Refer to homepage:
[link] Tudelft has an integrated international offshore course with Civil Engineering background overview that matches with my background and interest in order to strengthen offshore engineering knowledge
Indonesia, which is an archipelago, has a lot of source in the sea, especially oil and gas, but only few Indonesians offshore analyst who have a strong basis in offshore theory and practice. In future, there will be more development, as stated by Indonesian Oil and Gas Local Authority, BP MIGAS in oil and gas industrial methods such as exploration and production in deep sea because there have been found many new source in deep-sea area.
Indeed, Indonesia needs more offshore engineers with a strong basis in theoretical knowledge and practical, in order to develop oil and gas resource and being a strong country with competent person who manage and run its business for Indonesian People’s benefit and prosperity.
