I happen to see this post and have a question.
Can we use the word "dictation," which my dictionary noted as an uncountable noun, in a "countable" sense as you have done here?
a dictation with its phonetic transcription?
I googled for the word "dictation" and think I saw several instances of it being used like that in the singular form but I am not sure of its acceptance.
It's much more important to speak correctly than to have good pronunciation.While that may be true, it's never too early for a student to pursue any aspect of language he or she feels interested in. Speaking both as a teacher and as a student, I've always found encouragement better than fault-finding as a teaching technique.
