Dear yogi2005

For a native BrE speaker, the answer is very easy. I suspect that the answers are actually  in the course book material from which you got the questions!

May I suggest that you check your text books first before we give you the answers!

With kind regards

Hi Brian,

Unfortunately, some answers that are very easy for native speakers are not that easy for non native speakers. Especially phrasal verbs , which are ,to some extend ,idomatic phrases, so if I haven't heard a particular phrasal verb used in a certain context and my dictionary doesn't have the meaning I'm looking for than i have no idea which ph.v. is correct.

When it comes to my examples I would put 'take up' in #2, but it's a pure gues, so I'm not sure if it's ok, in #1 I have no idea what ph.v. fits the sentence

p.s.
I have only handouts with exercises, no list of ph.v. , no course book.

take to (Cambridge)
to start to like someone or something:
His wife took to her new neighbours at once.
She's taken to tennis like a duck to water (= she likes it and is good at it).

take out (dictionary.com)
To secure (a license, for example) by application to an authority.

For #2, there may be more suitable phrasal verb...but at this time 'take out' is the best one I can think of.

To err is human, to forgive divine. 잘못을 저지르는 것은 인간이지만 용서할수있는 것은 하늘과 같은것.

OK Yogi2005! You have convinced me! I apologise for being unhelpful! Danyoo has provided the answers and definitions.i.e.

1. She has really taken TO her nephew and always buys him expensive presents.
2. When you take OUT insurance, read the small prints.

Another way of explaining these phrasal verbs is..
To "take to" is to "take a liking to" = to have developed an affection for....
To "take out" an insurance policy, is to start a new insurance policy.

Does this help?
Kind regards

You have made clearly the sentence, I think it's easy for you , a native but for  the others are very difficult.I always have a lot of trouble to use preposition. If you don't explain I have never understand take to is take a liking to , to have developed an affection for.To  take out an insurance policy is to  start  a new insurance policy. Really, two- word- verb is a great problem!

Hello Phungninhbao

Yes, two-word-verbs are not easy for people learning English! There are many of them in English. On behalf of all native speakers I apologise for this!  And each one has a different meaning. It is almost impossible to guess the meanings! Even if one sounds similar to another,  the meaning will probably be totally different!

In some language books are lists of phrasal verbs. One good way to learn them is by doing a proper language course. This way you will probably learn a few new phrasal verbs each day.

Of course we can always help you with any that you do not understand. But there are actually ....thousands! But you do not need to learn ALL af them! Some two-word-verbs (phrasal verbs) are used more often than others. I suggest you just learn the phrasal verbs that are in common usage.

With all good wishes
