I'm going to start teaching English to medical students preparing to practice physical therapy. As I know very little about the medical field, can anyone direct me to some resources for myself to get a general overview of the subject as well as any useful teaching resources? Thanks, Mary

Hi1 Anno. You don't tell us what level  are your students. If they are in the elementary level , I think you can teach them vocabulary. Melody's post of medical tittle and abbreviation is very useful. It recalls me of the first  lesson of the fist year of my medicine studying. We learnt about " general practitioner". In our country, we call it  "All of branches " doctor { General doctor}.  Specialists are always regarded as the first range of doctors . People always think they were belong to the brilliant students.....I was very proud to explain to the last -year -student of English language  about this tittle, the  generous role of General Practioner in my country and some situation of medical professionals. If your students are in the intermediate level , you can choose some readings  about merdicine such as some explanations  in the post of Boyestown about tittle and abbreviation I have read a  webpage about woman io this address: OBGYN, net . There are a lot of readings  and vocabulary about women diseases such as Urogynecology, Ovarian tumours....In my country, Doctors used to teach us about medecine English.  English teachers only teach us courses to reach intermediate or elementary  level in order to learn English in our career better

I have a small but growing selection of resources over at www.hospitalenglish.com There is one health professional article on physical therapy and a few others that might be useful.  There is a students section where they can listen to the article and some follow-up online exercises.  They're all free to download and use with your students.  I hope it helps.
