We say a piece of music/cake/song/paper/furniture/news__/__/__/__/__/__.

Is there anything else that we can use a piece to be their collective noun?

Many thanka in advance.

It is not common to say "a piece of song".

Here are a few more:

a piece of cheese/meat/fish/chicken/pie/pizza/bread/toast/chocolate/gum/cloth/clothing/land/art/luggage/equipment/wood

Idioms:

a piece of work

a piece of the pie

a piece of the action

a piece of my mind

Hi,

A piece of works well with many uncountable nouns: a piece of work/coursework/research/advice/music/equipment/software ... (and many more)

Hi Yankee,

I'm sorry to interrupt.

Here are a few more:

a piece of cheese/meat/fish/chicken/pie/pizza/bread/toast/chocolate/gum

>Does "some" or "a chuck of" work well with the above foods?

>Do you use a lot of "a piece of" in daily life with food items?  Like "I'm going to get a piece of beef/pork"

Thank you.

We do say "a chunk of meat", meaning a large piece. (not chuck)

"Piece of" is very common with food items, and especially with other adjectives.

"Slice of" is used with food we cut into flat strips with a knife when it is served.(

pizza, toast, bread, cake, pie)

I'd like a little piece / slice of pizza.

Give me a nice-sized piece of chicken.

I'd like a thick slice of roast beef.

“advice”

"A piece of advice" is a very good one to learn and remember since people so often make the mistake of saying either "an advice" or "advices".

You can also say "a piece of information".

Hi!

a piece of work

a piece of the pie

a piece of the action

a piece of my mind

Could anybody give me the meanings of them?

Are they often used ?

I'm afraid that people may not understand them when I use these idioms in my writing?

Many thanks in advance.

Just a little aside:  They are not necessarily collective nouns.  In fact, most of them are not collective nouns.
