Adverb placement can vary somewhat, but be sure to get them reasonably close to the verb or clause they modify. These are OK:
Joe worked on his report until finally his finished report lay beside him.
Joe worked on his report until his finished report finally lay beside him.
Although he was in pain, he still lay unmoving.
Although he was in pain, he lay unmoving. (The meanings of 'still' and 'although' heavily overlap.)
