Hi buddies........ I'm a nNew Headway-Upper Intermediate student........ Please check the following sentences....... Unit 12 in New Headway Work Book-  Noun Phrases........ The questions should be answered according to the picture...... But I don't think it's necessary to put the picture here....... I just need to know if the sentences are not grammatically right......... Bold sentences are the gaps which I myself have filled.........

1. There's a woman wearing a hat pulling a pram.
2. I can see a boy escaping from a dog.
3. A man sitting on the bench with a newspaper eating a sandwich.
4. There's a gardener with a hat on the head cutting the grass.
5. A family sitting under a tree having a picnic.
6. I can see an ice-cream van serving a queue.(???)
7. Some men sitting on the side of the lake
8. There's a boy on the hill flying a kite.
9. I can see a boy riding a bike _____ past the lake( I don't know what to fill in the second gap)

If necessary I'll add the picture.........

Thanks in advance Smile [:)]

1. There's a woman wearing a hat pulling a pram. No. You push a pram, not pull it.
2. I can see a boy escaping from a dog. grammatically ok. 'running away from' is a more natural phrase, unless the picture shows him climbing over a fence or something.
3. A man sitting on the bench with a newspaper eating a sandwich. A man is sitting on the bench, reading a newspaper, and eating a sandwich.
4. There's a gardener with a hat on the head cutting the grass. A gardener wearing a hat or 'with a hat on his head'.
5. A family sitting under a tree having a picnic. ok, but 'is' sitting.
6. I can see an ice-cream van serving a queue.(???) ok
7. Some men sitting on the side of the lake. by the side of the lake.
8. There's a boy on the hill flying a kite. ok, but I'd choose 'a' hill.
9. I can see a boy riding a bike _____ past the lake( I don't know what to fill in the second gap) quickly? carefully? whatever adverb is appropriate.

(The image size was too big! So plz click the following link to see the image!Smile [:)]

number 5 and 7 use the same structure i think....... So should number seven be "some men are sitting..."?

and about sentence number 3.... The man is not reading any newspaper! It's just in his hand! so don't u think the sentence of mine is correct?

and about number one........ Yup! I'm so sorry! Big Smile [:D]

by the way, I dropped one of the sentences

There are two boats sailing on the lake.

A man holding a newspaper is eating a sandwhich on a bench. (The bench does not have the newspaper, as your original sentence could imply.)

There are two boats sailing on the lake.  - That's fine.

One of your others ones - I can't see it now that I'm in the response screen - needs "is" or "are" - is sitting, or something like that. Take a look and see if you can find it.
