Application for an internship

Dear Ms ....., dear Ms .....,                                          ....., 24th February 2006

With this letter I would like to introduce my candidature to the internship in the United States provided by the IAESTE practical training exchange program.

My name is ....., I am 22 years old and I am a student of mechanical engineering in 5th semester at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, University of .......

Having spent a family vacation in the United States in the year 1999 I have always wanted to return to this country, as my impressions of this vacation were extremely tremendous. Additionally both a friendly family who lived three years in Canada and my sister who recently spent a high school year in the United States have told passionately about their adventures. Hence I am very eager to go overseas for an extended period of time to gain my own valuable experiences.

Being the greatest economic power and the most excellent technological country in the world the United States appeal their own fascination on me as a prospective engineer. Furthermore the US economy is closely connected to the German one.

An internship abroad provides a different view on solving problems, establishing new connections, giving material for new perspectives and ideas and provides the opportunity to identify additional strength and weaknesses. Going abroad under IAESTE program is a great chance to become acquainted with a foreign business mentality and corporate culture. It would be a personal goal to expand and enlarge my skills and knowledge and to learn thinking in a global perspective.

For me, it is even more important that the candidacy appears to become a potential challenge that I am ready to meet.

I can say I am an independent team player and very flexible, someone who is structured, orderly, motivated and ambitious besides that I have great organizational skills. I have profound English language skills due to an education for nine years and a term paper of English power course at school.

During the past five semesters I have studied mechanical engineering and I will finalize successfully my intermediate diploma in April this year. Being a student assistant at two university institutes I gained many experiences, especially in the laboratories at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics.

No education is complete without experience. I already made three internships and I tremendously enjoyed my previous one at EADS SPACE Transportation last year. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to work in different divisions of the business laboratories and these experiences strengthened my skills in applying my knowledge from the basic studies.

I believe that the internship in the United States is ideal for me and that I am just the right student for it.

I am looking forward to your response.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,

.....
