"Dear Madam/Sir,
I am XYZ, pursuing a bachelor degree in Engineering Physics at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. After graduating from IIT Delhi, I do not want to stop on what I have achieved till now but would like to continue with a Master's degree in a respectable world-renowned European University such as the "University of Amsterdam".
My Bachelor Degree in Engineering Physics has been a perfect mix of both the Fundamentals & Applications of Physics and Mathematics. I have received a strong all-round knowledge in various areas of Physics and Engineering. The relevant courses in Physics include Quantum Mechanics, Classical Mechanics and Relativity, Mathematical Physics, Non-Linear Phenomena in Physics, Plasma etc. On the other hand I have as well had a very strong base in Mathematics which forms the back-bone of Theoretical Physics. Relevant courses in Mathematics include Algebra, Calculus, Numerical Methods and Probability. Although mathematics courses mentioned here were not all my core courses, I elected them to study just because of my interest in Mathematics.
It might be appropriate to mention here that I have a reasonable amount of work experience as well. I have worked as a summer trainee at one of the prime research establishment in India in the field of ‘Non-Linear Optics'. I have also worked as a paid 'Student Assistant' at University of Heidelberg, Germany for a Computer Simulation of a complex optical system. I have received a recommendation letter from Prof. ABC of University of Heidelberg, Germany for my sincere and dedicated work under his supervision. I have two other reference letters from my academic professors which further speak of my ability and knowledge in this field.
I have asked myself this question several times as to which profession will grant me the ability to use and improve my existing knowledge and skills. And I have realized that for a curious mind as mine, a research based studies and a career henceforth would be ideal. I have always been fascinated by the world of science and technology and its influence on our lives. With a propensity for Mathematics and a strong background of Physics, I strongly believe that a higher study in a field of Theoretical Physics at the UvA would be best suited for me. I am eager to gain more experience & knowledge and in my opinion this program is the best way to achieve all of it. Its international aspect and a very high standard of education encounters different students from various parts of the world, so the interaction during the study would be very enriching and interesting. Such an international atmosphere fascinates me the most. I relish to interact with people from different cultures and make friends with them.
I have had such an experience when I visited Germany for a summer internship in Germany. I realized that I adapted to the new culture very quickly and I found myself very comfortable to work in a foreign country. So to study in an international University as UvA where I would meet people from different nations would be a dream come true.
As I am seriously considering a career in research field, it's my ardent desire to pursue my Master's Degree in Theoretical Physics at the University of Amsterdam, from autumn 2010. A long bright history of UvA, its world class competence and an international atmosphere attracts me to pursue my education at UvA. It would certainly ensure me a high standard of education and exposure. There would be an ample scope for me to use my creativity, knowledge and intelligence at UvA and gain aall what I need to lay a strong base for a bright career. It would indubitably aid me to mould my career in the best possible manner. I firmly believe that this degree would be a useful addition to my current education and I can certainly bank my professional career in this field.
Armed with a solid understanding of fundamental principles of Physics and Mathematics, I can pursue this degree where I would add to my experience and theoretical constructs which will help me guide to a better career in research. It would be my pleasure, if I can engage all my labour and ability to achieve knowledge from UvA. I am confident enough that I would be able to accomplish higher study in the proposed field that will contribute to my future professional interest. I firmly believe that if I could get a chance to cultivate my potentiality at the University of Amsterdam, I would get several opportunities to interact with world class faculty who can guide me for my own good. It's a unique opportunity for me to get a higher academic degree from a world class university like the UvA. I look forward to launch my career in the desired path.
I appreciate this opportunity to provide further background information in support of my application for entrance to the Theoretical Physics Master's Program at the University of Amsterdam.
Thank You"
