Today it seems that the connection between violence and entertainment is getting closer and closer. The impact of television violence may be immediately evident in the child's behavior or may surface years later. One might ask if we know what is happening, why they put violence on television. The basic reason is because violence is what people want to see. Much of the normal viewing audience, and especially children, will watch the shows with more action before they even think about watching the morally correct ones. Another reason is that some broadcasters claim that there is not enough evidence to prove that TV violence is harmful. But, scientists who have studied this aspect have stated that TV violence and aggressive behavior are linked. However, I believe that exposure to violence on media has three major affects include learned aggressive behavior, fearful attitudes and desensitization.

Media violence affects children by increasing aggressiveness and anti-social behavior, making them less sensitive to violence and to victims of violence, and increasing their appetite for more violence in entertainment and in real life. From the constant viewing of violent programs, children find nothing wrong with imitating these violent behaviors, which therefore makes the young children more aggressive and on a constant search for violence everywhere.     Moreover, Violence on media can lead to aggressive behavior in children.  If kids see violence on television they tend to act out this violence.  Television often glorifies violence in the shows that kids watch.  One of the newest shows that glorify violence is Power Rangers.  This would probably lead to kids acting more aggressive because they are constantly watching it on television .

Children who watch a lot of television violence are more likely to think that the world is a mean and dangerous place. They develop unrealistic fears about the world, and they may be becomes afraid of anything. Their minds will never be in peace again. They will have nightmares day and night.  Furthermore, they will imagine all the scary scenes. Children may not learn, try to imitate or release predisposition to aggression, but they are very likely to become traumatized. There have been, for example, noted cases of children who had nightmares the night they saw SADDAM HUSAIN beheadings.

Exposure to violence on television can also desensitize the child, causing him/her to have an increased tolerance to violence. Those who watch an excessive amount of violent acts may become less bothered by violence in general and be less sensitive to suffering and pain that others experience's. Furthermore, as the incidence of viewing violence goes up, the child becomes immune to it and loses the ability to feel compassion and concern. Children may not be able to differentiate the real life violence of murder versus the onscreen make believe violence. Children may also interpret that violence is a way to solve problems, imitating what they see on shows. Children on the playground are quick to make believe they are their favorite superhero fighting the bad guys. Too often children get hurt or hurt others not realizing the severe consequences of what they see on television as it happens in real life.

Summing up, we have agreed that exposure to violence on media has three major affects include learned aggressive behavior, fearful attitudes and desensitization. Perhaps the most important way to prevent children from watching media violence is to stop it where it starts. The parents should step in and turn the set off when a violent program comes on. Fixing the problems of children and media violence isn't easy. There are many factors that have to be considered and people to be convinced. This problem will, no doubt, never go away and continue to get worse as the years go by. However, there are measures that can be taken to prevent the children from ever being exposed to such things. After all, what's the world going to be like when the people who are now children are running the world?
